Dean Garrett’s Tenure: A Brief Retrospective

Since 2014, Dean Geoffrey Garrett has promoted progress and improvement at every level of the Wharton School. With a clear focus on entrepreneurship and innovation, the future of finance, and analytics, he launched numerous initiatives including Analytics at Wharton, Venture Lab, and a dedicated Teaching Excellence effort. Dean Garrett redesigned nearly every building on Wharton’s Philadelphia campus,  including two new game-changing structures — Tangen Hall and the Academic Research Building — with 150,000 combined square feet of experiential learning space. He also led the opening of the Penn Wharton China Center in Beijing and enhanced the School’s relationships and engagement around the world. In support of Wharton’s More Than Ever campaign, he brought together the entire community to raise over $900 million including the largest gift in School history. Penn President Amy Gutmann and Provost Wendell Pritchett said of Dean Garrett’s tenure, “The student body is more accomplished, more diverse, and better supported than at any point in Wharton’s storied history.”
